Fun with Foraging: Wild Black Raspberry Jam

Recipes

Berry season is in full swing at Raven Woods Cottage, and so we now enjoy the sweet benefits that come with it! We have a lovely patch of wild black raspberries that graces us with delicious fresh berries every summer. Foraging these wild raspberries is a favorite hobby of mine, as it reminds me of foraging berries in one of my favorite games. I sometimes like to call our endeavor “Stardew Valley IRL”. *IRL meaning “in real life” for those that may not know*

Once we start picking these, along with our homegrown red raspberries, we have way more than we can eat. Wild black raspberries can be frozen, but we also love to make them into homemade jam. Jams and jellies are far easier to make than one might think, and great way to enjoy our homegrown and foraged berries all year long.

Our recipe for black raspberry jam adds in a small amount of red raspberries. I think this adds some more dimension and brighter color to the jam. This recipe can use any ratio, or all black or all red raspberries. Please feel free to make the jam to your personal taste, or alter based on what you have. This recipe yields two 8 oz jars, but I also like to use four 4 oz jars to spread the love and share this jam as a gift.

After making, you can put this jam in the refrigerator to use within a month or two, or it can be canned. More information on home canning can be found on our Canning 101 post.

Our Wild Black Raspberry jam is one of our favorites. Feel free to comment on how you might make yours differently, or what your favorite jams are. Enjoy!
